Hound ("we", "our", "the app") is a free scam detection assistant available at hound.krugg.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What We Collect
If you use Hound without signing in:
- The text you type describing a situation and the checkboxes you select. This is sent to our AI provider to generate an analysis and is not stored on our servers after the response is returned.
- If you use the "Share" feature, a snapshot of your conversation is stored so the recipient can view it via the share link.
- Basic server logs (IP address, timestamps) for security and abuse prevention. These are automatically deleted after 30 days.
If you sign in with Google:
- Your Google email address and display name, used to identify your account.
- Your conversations (the questions you ask and Hound's responses) are stored in our database so you can access them later, continue them, or delete them.
- We do not access your Google contacts, files, calendar, or any other Google data.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the service: Your situation descriptions are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate scam analysis. Anthropic's use of this data is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy.
- To improve your experience: If you are signed in, previous conversations provide context so Hound can give more informed answers (for example, knowing you use a Chromebook when assessing a "Windows virus" alert).
- To maintain the service: Server logs help us identify and prevent abuse.
What We Do NOT Do
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not use your data to train AI models.
- We do not serve advertisements.
- We do not track you across other websites.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, hosted in the United States. Communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS. We use industry-standard security practices, but no system is 100% secure.
Your Rights
- Delete conversations: If you are signed in, you can delete any of your conversations at any time from the home screen.
- Delete your account: Email hound@krugg.com and we will delete all data associated with your account.
- Use without an account: You can use Hound without signing in. No personal data is stored in that case.
Cookies
If you sign in, we set a single authentication cookie (hound_session) to keep you logged in. It is HTTP-only (not accessible to JavaScript), expires after 90 days, and contains no personal data beyond a signed reference to your email address. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party cookies.
Children's Privacy
Hound is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will note the new effective date at the top of this page.
